Hi, was just wondering if anyone has heard of the carbon iakos breaking on the scorpius XM. Only asking to compare to why aluminum would be preferred over carbon or visa versa.
I am doing some research on the various unlimited OC6 models out there. There is some material scattered here and there (mostly glowing single race accounts connected to manufacturers’ own sites), but I thought it might be useful to me and others if we could aggregate some thoughts here from people’s experience of training, racing and living with them day in and day out.
As we post, could the poster also indicate where/what kind of water they paddle most of the time?
I have an old Viper that started to leak on the seam again. The first time was a small leak so I pulled a vacuum on the hull and dropped epoxy in it until, it sucked it then took off the vacuum. That worked. This time it was about 3 inches of seam that came apart. I took a screwdriver in the seam and it popped apart for about 2ft. I was thinking I would put thickened epoxy in a ziplock cut the corner and pipe it in. Think this would work? Should I try to just pop the while seam and pipe the whole thing? Advice and opinions welcome.
I own a Hurricane oc1 and cannot attach the I' ako's to the ama in the higher slots without the I'ako's slipping out.of the ama. Attaching them further down in the slot works. However, I cannot balance the canoe properly with this problem. Is there a fix to this problem or will I have to replace the ama? The I'ako's are fairly new.
I would love some insight on the top V-1 models out there. I havent had the chance to see the hull designs of the following V-1's and would love if there was a little more info on some of the canoes functions. Of the 3 V-1 canoes I have used (Ah min, Aukahi and Timi Va'a) there seems to be alot of differences.
Canoes I would like to know more about (pictures of the underside of Hull would be epic):
-Pure Viper Venom (non rudder)
-Fai 3x (prob the most popular V1 I have seen through out the world)
-Vaa Factory
-ARE Va'a
I paddle a used Hurricane mostly flat water in Arizona but participate in offshore races during the winter in California. The ama that came with my canoe feels heavy with no sign of water intrusion but looks as though it has been re- painted with a good quality epoxy. Does the weight of the ama have a significant effect on speed? I am an older paddler but in pretty good shape but cannot seem to get my average speed over a 6 mile course (practice) faster than about 5.8 to 6.2 mph. Thanks in advance to those of you that may have some thoughts on this topic.
I am looking for an ama for an old OC1 Thunder to buy or something compatible to use. It must have Iaku hole inserts on top side. local808@mac.com
Mahalo for any help.
AMA repair- I have a Tiger OC1 and have several cracks in the ama. I have searched but can only find repairs to the canoe.. Is it the same repair as the canoe or do I repair similar to a surfboard? Was planning on fiberglass and epoxy overlay...
