Safety

Some senior paddlers urged to bring up the safety topic here on the forum; they are afraid that someone may get hurt and/or that the coast guards will regulate the sport.
"Whatever you do not control yourself, others will control for you"

Stronger currents, bigger waves, stronger winds and colder water during the winter time make paddling more hazardous.
It was also felt, that safety measures during the races may not always be sufficient.

The safety concern is shared by the boat builders: they are surprised into what type of conditions some paddlers take their boats.

Is it okay to "audit" a race?

I know it was allowed in my college classes, but don't we call that renegade in canoe racing? I'm wondering how the rest of us racers and the race directors feel about paddlers who race the whole course but don't show up in the results?

Kalua Turkey Fundraiser 2009

Keahiakahoe Canoe Club is proud to announce their Annual Kalua Turkey Fundraiser to be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2009. Tired of plain baked or deep fried turkey? Take the guess work out of testing your turkey for the optimal temperature, and let us do the work with a refreshing twist on the Thanksgiving feast. Kalua Turkey is a delectable treat when cooked in a traditional “imu.” This is quickly becoming a time honored tradition and space is limited.

Please look out for someone trying to sell the "lost" Purple & White Hurricane on Craigslist in Kailua!

There are suspicions of someone trying to sell the purple and white Hurricane that was lost on Sunday, Nov 15. The distinction of the lost Hurricane is that it has a Wave Blade 'ama and repairs on the boat. An ad was posted on Craigslist by an individual stating it was a purple and white canoe with repair work done! When contacted to see if it was the lost boat the person did not have pictures available and did not know much about the canoe. Person no longer is answering phone calls. We are asking the paddling community to help out a fellow paddler to locate this boat. Aloha!
