Where you like paddle for novice one man?

Hey where you guys like paddle for a couple of novice one-mans? I practice 6-man at Keehi but that, Sand Island, Ala Moana get pretty busy after work. Anything on Windward side or is that usually too rough? I live in town and am hoping to find a close but not too busy place. Thank you.

Visual Aids: Steersman Training

Perhaps Rambo, the video kahuna, knows? Are there any DVD's around on outrigger canoe steering.

I'm interested in training some new steersmen, but I'm afraid my personal quirks may get magnified by my students. West's books are useful, but "a picture is worth a 1,000 words" and surely moving pictures are worth a "1,000,000 words."

Science of Paddling Part I

Regatta 2009

This years regatta season is shaping up to be very interesting and fun to watch.

For the second week in a row, it appears the Waikiki Beach Boys have captured the overall points in the Hui Wa'a regatta with the men's program stepping up.

Outrigger and Hui Lanakila have also been getting strong performances from both the women and men's program.

With the competition getting tougher throughout, it should make for an awesome build up to the States.

Mahalo nui to both papers for supporting the sport and providing free exposure - please click on the links below to show your interest as well because if not even the paddlers are reading the paddling news articles, the papers will have no reason to write about the sport, potential sponsors will have little interest in sponsoring, and less people outside of paddling will know or understand what the sport is about!

Rack up the visitor counts on these paddling news pages!

Cali Iron Man DQ's

Does anyone know why the boats were DQ'd?

Abandoned Steersman

Just looking at the results from this weekend's Iron Champs in San Diego and saw that one crew (O'side) was DQ'ed for finishing with only 5 paddlers when they abandoned their steersman after a huli. I want to hear that story. Anyone have any info?

Molokai Time-The Rumors

Time to talk Molokai Men and Women.

I don’t know much about what is happening with the Women. It might be the same as last year. Team Bradley with Hui Lanakila trying hard to take them out.

Australian women coming? Finances will have an influence on the race for teams to travel-men and women

Outlook for the Men's race

So last year after Molokai, the impression I got was that top Tahitian crews are not coming back for a while. I wonder if that is true. Hiro C maybe can let us know.

Will Lanikai make another push? Answer Of Course. But does Kai B. race with them. I think the Dolan Brothers are gone for Olympic training. So they might be a little slower than last year. Yes I wrote that

It appears Outrigger is still building and will be strong.

In a regatta race Keahou Canoe Club had Bruce Ayau, "Ikaika" Hauanio, "Nate" Hendricks, Seth Koppes, "T" Lussia'a and Andy Penny race sprints. That is solid. Will they remain together or will they split up for team Live Strong and other All-Star teams

Kailua is building as well.

I think they should take the top 9 Team Pueo riders and make a Team Pueo. That would be strong. Danny, Jimmy A., Luke, Kelly, Manny, Tapa, etc.

Will there be an all Hawaiian PAA team again with Manny putting it together?

Any Australian men’s crews going to step up? I know the last time a strong Aussie crew came they took 9th-Team Tiger. They can’t be happy with that. Rambo will know of course

Your thoughts and rumors??

After This Sunday's Nalo Regatta...

Go grind at "Sweet Home Waimanalo" next to Naturally Hawaiian, two doors down from McyD's. Lanikai CC paddler, Patrick, owns and operates this small BBQ joint! Always hard starting up, so support your fellow paddlers and grind some ONO food at the same time, if can!

Good luck to everyone racing!

My crew assigned me the privilege of locating an escort boat for this year's Molokai. We are Hui Nalu 55's and want to line up a vessel as soon as we can. Any help in this regard is greatly appreciated.
