Murray River Marathon 2008

The link to a little highlights package I put together. Just tried to give you the feel of the whole race with the camaraderie. Our Canadian visitors rated it very highly because there was no prize money and plenty of friendship in its place.

FOOD

Here's a great recipe for a post-workout munch.

A pizza pan. Spray it.
Cover with your favorite vegies. I use brocc, cali, carrot, turnip, onion, and green pepp.
Spray vegies and sprinkle with season salt.
Bake at 450 for 10-12 mins.

In a bowl, add raw spinach, toms, and mush.

Add cooked vegies to raw, sprinkle with a little chili powder or a favorite spice, and top with feta. Let set a few minutes. It will heat the spinach. Munch!

A Pinot goes very good with this.

I'm eating this as I write. Sort of...LNB

Training

Due to extreme cold and wind, had to stop paddling for several weeks. Finally got out last week for 2 days and we both noticed our lats hurting after a couple hours. I decided to find an exercise that replicated that pain to add to my winter off-water training. Hit the jackpot today!

I took one of those black workout rubber bands, wrapped it twice around a paddle shaft with the blade cut off and attached the other end to a pole in my basement. Then I rowed. Really strong resemblence to actual paddle stroke. My lats hurt in the same way as on the water anyway.

A poor mans paddle one I guess.

I also use a 10 lb 34" lat pulldown bar. The one with the cage on each end. I paddle outrigger and surfski with it. Great burn and in the upper body and rips the transverse abdominal as you rotate.

The two exercises are a great warmup for my weight training and aerobic training during the winter...LNB

Tahiti Rame paddles

Awhile back there was a link posted in one of the forums for a company on Oahu that builds rudderless style canoes both with and without rudders. On their website they also advertised that they have Tahiti Rame paddles available for sale. Anyone know the website or company name?

Thanks

Oahu Impression:

pre race training

Just curious how guys train a week or two before a race. Sprints and or distance?? Does anyone who plans on doing outer island races really prep for the local races or just focus their training for the big race and just use the local races for training?? Just trying to see what others are doing.

The Never Ending Story

This thread is a never ending story about an Oc1 Paddler (that is just learning how to paddle)
All you have to do to keep the story going is to post 3 words and not post twice in a row. I will get the ball rolling with the first three words.

One huge day...
