Canoe Cover

I need to replace a canoe cover for a Hurricane. Can anyone recommend whether I should stick with the original equipment or go aftermarket? Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket canoe cover for the Hurricane?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
www.vakaeiva.com

The 5th annual Steinlager Vaka Eiva Paddling Festival kicks off on the14th November for 8 days of racing and fun. Around 600 paddlers from Aotearoa, Australia, Tahiti, Hawaii, Samoa and Guam will battle it out in the OC1 & V6 Avana Iron Challenge, the Sprints at stunning Muri Lagoon together with some fun & games & the world famous ‘pop the ama’ competition, the U19 Junior 10km & 15km races & the headline acts – the Women’s Round Raro “Pacific Paddle” relay race & the Men’s Round Raro ‘Pacific Cup’ relay race, also Junior U14’s and U16’s will officially compete this year.
.
This is the perfect event to bring the family and enjoy a paddling holiday and still compete in hard core OC racing. Nappy's back again, Kai will be there as as well as all the regulars that have made this event a success.
.
I won't be paddling as I've been officially engaged by the Cook Islands Canoeing Association to capture all the action in HD from Jet Ski, Media Boats, in water, on land and of course as usual, every thing that moves will have a GoPro Camera mounted on it, including 3 new, just released 5mp "wide angle" GoPros. Paddlers will be able to view Video highlights of the days events on the Big Screen at Trader Jacks Bar & Grill that night, as well as the usual still slide-show popular with last years crowd. And for those considering going to Vaka Eiva next year, online footage will be viewable some time shortly after the event.
.
Harvie Allison's much sort after "Vaka Eiva Calendar is back, proceeds from the calendar going towards developing Junior Outriggers in The Cook Islands. Photos on the Calendar this year http://tinyurl.com/4m2tdv

Mayors Cup

The Mayors Cup, 26 mile race around Manhattan Island is the bomb this Fall . In addition to a world class field of surfski racers , the number of OC2s` entered in the race will surpass all other prior races on the U.S. east coast . This is urban paddling at its best . Cruise past the UN building , then at the final turn you face the Statue of Liberty up close and personal before the final sprint to the finish line.

small waves, good surf...

Rudderless V1 Models

Apologies if this has been covered already, I've seen a few people flayed for asking "obvious" boat model questions... I did search the forums but didn't turn up relevant threads.

Recommendations on favorite V1 / rudderless boat models that are available to the mainland US? (Or even a list of boat manufacturers to research?) 5'8" female wants to know. Primary use would be sprinting flat water, would be nice to actually be able to paddle in moderate choppy conditions and downwind (SF Bay area) with skirts/canvas secondarily.

I have used a Huki V1X and V1Z rudderless, and the Teva Nui, which tracked very nicely. I am wondering what other options might be available and how folks like their boats...

I hear that there are some new models being imported affordably (under $3K) to Hawaii from Tahiti, met a paddler on Kauai who had one.

Tanks!

Maui Paddlers and safety

This is a question for our Maui paddlers. What type of safety precautions are the norm for some of the more challenging runs? Specifically for runs such as Keanae/Maliko, Honokohau to Canoe beach, Maui to Moloka'i....etc.
