OC1 race courses

I have a couple questions regarding the two courses (long and short) in most of the OC1 races here in Hawaii. Is the long course only for “experienced” paddlers and what constitutes a paddler as experienced? How long is it permissible to stay in the short course? Are there any guidelines as to what course you should race in?
Is it a bad idea to use the race course say Makai pier to Kaimana, as a safety measure to attempt the course for the first time? For instance, if a paddler that has completed the short course series, but has not ventured onto some of the long courses due to safety concerns, is it permissible to use the race as the first attempt to do the course? The race obviously would have the escort boats to aide if they were to encounter any problems, but on the other hand, an inexperienced paddler (referring to the course not paddling experience) on the course may distance the escort boat(s) from the rest of the pack. I am curious to know the opinion of those paddle in these races.

Training "wheels" ama

I wanted to know if anyone out there in sarcastic land has made a training wheel ama, One that would attach to the right side of the boat, I have a customer with serious asthma. He (and his wife) is very afraid of the boat flipping, He has a kayak but wants an OC-1 for the speed, relative to output, and the overall weight, I made a prototype by taking a 1/2 in bar, bent it so it would attach to the rear Iako and then went across the deck level to the water, I made a crude ama about 16 inches long and 4 inches wide and 8 inches tall out of foam. I attached the ama by drilling a hole in the side of the foam, and just pushed the bar on. I attached the bar to the Iako with hose clamps. It worked great, I could put all the weight on it I wanted and not huli, The ama runs about 8 inches off the water. You can practice flying the ama, and not worry about going over, I would be curious if anyone else has ever made something similar. After trying it out I really think there is something here, A great safety tool for kids, new paddlers, paddlers wanting to learn where there ama wants to flip etc, The ama can be attached quickly and No modifications to the existing Iako or boat,
I would really like to here from those paddlers that are new or feel this is something they may use, Privately or publicly JC, GOTO, Poopoo and others that always want to rip on anything not MANly please keep the sarcasm to a minimum,

Live Webcast for OC-1 and OC-6 races!

The past two years I've been watching the ASP WCT (Association of Surfing Professionals/World Championship Tour "Dream Tour") contest online and wondering what if there was live webcasts for our OC-1 races and OC-6 races. Now the entire world and viewers can watch Kanaka Ikaika, PAA, etc. races online and watch their heroes battle it out and experience the action and drama first hand. Like the WCT webcast, they can have paddler or team profiles, interviews and commentating through the entire race. The only time spectators see the paddlers is when they paddle towards the finish line and not knowing who was battling with who, the fierce look in the paddlers faces while battling each other, and the size of ocean swells that are being surfed by our best. For OC-6 channel for example, we can actually watch Lanikai, Team NZ/HI, and the visiting tahitians batte it out.

Just watching surf contest online is exciting especially when you got Kelly and Andy in one heat with skatepark waves or the newly high profiled tour rookies like Dane Reynolds and Jordy Smith busting sick moves. I would sign on online to watch Karel out surf everybody or watch Kai's intensity as he paddles or the Lanikai young guns, Ryan and Jack, make their move on the vets.. And like surfers, each paddler has their flair and style especially in the surf.

OC-1 final purchase decision

Hi guys, I need your help.

I'm a small paddler who is looking to buy my 1st OC-1.
I've narrowed it down to a Nai'a Iki and a Pegasus.

The Nai'a Iki is a rarely used Carbon boat (10 times or less) that's a grand less in price over a new Pegasus.
I plan on keeping the canoe for awhile.

Which one would you go for and why??

As always, I appreciate your help!
