My new found friend canoemaker got me thinking, why isn't Outrigger canoe paddling in the Olympics? With all the silly-ass "sports" that are in the Olympics why not Outrigger, or Surfing, for that matter? I sense a cultural bias at work here. Is it because these sports were invented by Brown People? What is the "critical mass" of competitors to which canoe maker referred in that "other" thread? Are a certain number of Bulgarian participants in tights required to gain admission? Please explain.

Im going to buy an olympic sprint kayak for my daughter , I dont know anything about them and would like to hear from anyone here who knows something about them. She weighs 115 lbs, and is 15 years old with good outrigger paddling ability , wants to do some sprinting . Many mahaloz in advance for your help.....

If I am paddling on the right I would assume you drive your heel down (not sure which one) or somthing to that effect to lock yourself into the boat. In my boat if I push on my heels they slide up the slick footwells to the rudder pedals. The place where my heels rest is at too shallow an angle to brace against, so I dont really have a way to lock myself in. I dont notice any problem, but if I am missing something I probably would not know it. If anyone could describe what (if anything) to do with the lower body during the stroke, much appreciated!

Does anyone think that an all wood paddle is that much easier on the joints than a hybrid?

Aloha, I love to paddle all weekend - but somehow I am always out there by myself.
There has got to be other OC-1 or OC-2 enthusiasts. Where are you????

About 3 weeks ago I participated in Jim's OC-1 clinic in Kailua - but didn't meet any North-Shore paddlers. There's got to be other individuals, that are working during the week, don't have time for the OC-6 training schedule - but want to be out there during the weekend.

Hey, anyone seen the video footage of the Maui Kjeldson huli in Sundays KOA NUI race. Apparently he did a complete "barrel roll " and surfaced still in the saddle ready for the next stroke. If anyone has it can they post to youtube or upload as a file.
