Friggin Media. RE: sick boy from ala wai

I hate the media sometimes. Check this article from today's starbulletin.
http://starbulletin.com/2007/03/08/news/story03.html

Headline states that "canal suspected in boys illness"

later in the article it states that it is unlikely that the student got sick from the ala wai.

i guess the moral of the story is wash you clothes and wash your body. Who doesn't throw their shorts in the back of their truck and wear it again later?

Famous Paddling/Paddler Quotes

this is just a fun little thread about things you remember coaches or other paddlers saying a.k.a quotes.
my coach "uncle" Joe has quite a bit of quotes that many of us, his youth paddlers know him by.

  1. "Lets Go!" pronunciation (Lez Goh)
  2. "Whaaaaat?!" pronunciation (Waaaaaaaah?!)
  3. "Nah Nah Nah" pronunciation (NahaNahaNaha)
  4. "Ahhhhhh" pronunciation (Aaaaaaaaaa)
  5. "Hah Shucks" (Ah Shux)
  6. "kkshkhdiodj" pronunciation (....?)

just a few of the quotes i know him by. haha. any other quotes? ive run across some Karel Tresnak Jr. quotes on the internet at some website.

Wave Chaser President's Weekend

Anybody know where the pictures are, I saw a few photographers when I was up there, but can't find any links to photos from this year? I found the results, but the galleries on wavechaser.com are all from old races and expired? Anybody know if any of the pictures are online?

Pre race and recovery nutrition

Hi Everyone...... I found these postings on www.sportmedbc.com . They are "Eating and Drinking for Recovery" and "Pre-Exercise Nutrition". Very informative and all in "laymans" terms.
See you on the water........

Catching waves

Hi there,
a while back I read a really good article (on the internet) describing in detail how to catch bumps and of course now I can't find it anywhere...it went into detail describing the different types of waves and how to catch them. If anyone out there knows which article I'm talking about and where I could find it I would really appreciate it. :)

OCPaddler Chatroom

I'm not sure if this subject's been brought up before but I'm sure it has. Keizo, have you thought about adding a chat room to this site? That instant interaction between paddlers from around the world would be pretty cool. The forum is great and I wouldn't change that in replacement of a chat room, but being able to chat with someone from another part of the world, say right after a big race, sounds cool to me. I know a lot of people are turned off by chat rooms but I guess it all depends on the people and the subject matter at hand. Just another thought from a bored paddler sitting at his computer.

Oahu OC1 Race Scene

It seems like the OC1 racing scene on Oahu is going backward instead of forward. With the sport growing in other parts of the islands and even the world, here on Oahu, there seems to be less of an organized association of OC1 events. I could be wrong, but that's just my perception. I know the logistics of putting on races are difficult at best and there's a lot of hard work involved, but with so many paddlers here on Oahu, I would think that there would be a stronger push to have more races with more people involved. Would it be possible for OCRA or Hui Waa to get more involved in the OC1 racing events to further the sport of paddling? Maybe OCRA and Hui Waa could have individual clubs host OC1 races just as they do regattas. That would promote more club paddlers involvement in races and the turn outs would be greater. There could even be shorter courses for the keiki to prep them for the longer races in the future. I read where they have OC1 racing events on lakes and such in other parts of the world. What about a regatta/sprint type of race every once in a while instead of just the longer ocean races? Just like the World Sprints, there could be a similar set-up except without so many events in the many different categories. It could be just OC1's and OC2's doing the same distances that the OC6's do in the regular regattas. This is just a thought to stimulate some discussion amongst paddlers.
