Most OC-1s I've seen being made seem to be more on the high end with lighter, more expensive materials. Are there any boat makers that will do less expensive boats that will be more suitable for a club that uses OC-1s as cross training for other paddling disciplines? Buying enough boats that cost upwards of $3000 for a club of 20 or more just for cross training seems to be a bit infeasible. Also, it seems that offering expensive, delicate boats to club members that are new to outrigger will probably lead to a lot of damaged boats fairly quickly.

Just got hold of a used Fai Va'a V1. I've researched here and on-line on how to basically rig it. I've got a bunch of bike tube rubbers. From old posts from Hiro and tuaruvaa blog, I'm thinking I will rig it out about 100cm (39") to start?? As a basic set up, will I probably have to shim the rear iako down (ama down)? Or should I just rig it with no shims and see how it sits.

I was wondering if anyone has used the mirror pond steering blade yet... I've used makana alii's double bend steering blade & I love it. Interested in trying out this steering blade from kialoa.

Have seen the Kapa'a getting transported on a truck's ladder racks. Awesome to do that. Was wondering...if with red flags and an escort vehicle...is this something the HPD would frown upon?. We carried some OC6's in Kauai on a van a few times and never had a problem. What makes these light weight canoes so useable is that they do do not need a trailer unelss there are rules about it. Anyone know...is it legal to put a 42 foot canoe on a truck rack as long as it is red flagged?

If someone knows the "allwave" outrigger brand (it's italian) :
I want to paddle on shallow rivers with my oracle duo. The standard rudder is 28 cm long.
They don't seem to make "special rudders", so I guess I need to retrofit an existing one from another brand, or even a surfski one without changing the yoke (I still want my standard rudder when at sea).

I could just buy another standard one and cut it in half, but I confess slaughtering a perfectly smooth working and brand new carbon rudder pains me a lot, not to mention the cost.
Any ideas ?

We might be selling our OC6 Bradley that just needs a little cleaning up and polishing. Nothing wrong with it at all. What price should we be asking? It's about 10 years old.
