Cartopping OC-2 question

Regarding a rack for a Stingray: I use a Thule J style padded Hull-a-port for my kayaks. Would this work or am I better off with the Burnham boat sling? My Epic 18 is pretty secure when I use the J style rack with bow and stern lines. Thanks for any help.

Good leash?

Can anybody steer me toward a good leash? I just got a new OC-2. Thanks for any help.

The fair market price on used OC1s?

I had posted on a yahoogroup for outrigger canoes that I was looking to buy my first OC1. People there (as they are here) have been exceedingly gracious and helpful. I had a person contact me about wanting to sell me her Huki V1-A. It is 10 years old and has had some repairs due to some past damage.

She said her asking price is $2100. There was another Huki V1-X that recently sold on the yahoogroup for $1500 and it was 2 years old and in "good condition". Both these deals sound like they are so wildly different and I am having difficulty in trying to determine a fair offer for the V1-A.

Was the Huki V1-X a super great deal? Or does the 10-year old V1-A seem a bit overpriced?

I certainly don't want to offend anyone with a "lowball" offer and thought I would check in with folks here to see what their thoughts were on used OC1s. I'm in California btw...not sure if that makes a difference in terms of supply/demand vs being out in Hawaii.

There's also a used 2-year old Hurricane that I'm looking at as well. The owner injured himself and says the OC1 is in "like new" condition. Curious as to what people thought. I was thinking around $2k...if a 2 year old Huki V1-X sold for $1500, but again, I'm just not sure.

Thanks for any input!

1st time OC1 purchase - need recommendation

I am a whitewater kayaker moving back to Maui and need to get involved in a paddling sport to get my paddling fix and have decided OC1 is the way to go for me.

Can anyone recommend a good OC1 to start with. I am 5'4" and weigh 140 lbs. I plan on paddling in the surf.

Also, where would you go to learn the paddling techniques, boat control, reading water, etc.?

Mahalo!

Car topping a Huki V2-Z?

I just ordered this canoe, but I guess this question could apply to any OC. Does Thule make any accessory that will work on my current crossbars or should I buy the foam block carriers from Huki? Thanks.

V-1 paddle size.

Should it be identical to OC-1 paddle, shorter longer ?

Under the dumb question category

Ok, I know there are no dumb questions, just dumb people who ask questions...

I've recently started my hunt for an OC1, having never paddled one before or even paddled anything resembling a canoe for the past 10 years.

So as I look at the classifieds, it would appear that some ama's are on the left side and some are on the right side. Under the dumb question category...can ama's be put on either side of the hull? And is there a correct side for an ama for a right-handed paddler?

Thank you for putting up with questions from a newbie to the sport...

Ama pads

We use mana amas on our Bradleys. We seem to have misplaced the rigging bucket for one of our canoes (ARG! Don't ask!), and are missing the blue pads that go between the iako & ama. Does anybody know where we can get replacement pads? Mahalo!!!

What size paddle?

I am in the process of buying an OC1 and had a question as to the type of paddle I should buy and how to size for an appropriate paddle for a relatively new paddler.

I am 5'11" and weigh 166 pounds. What's the right length for a paddle? Should i buy wood or graphite? Should i buy straight, single-bend, double-bend, triple-bend :) ...? All so confusing.

Thanks for any help you can provide to a newcomer to the sport.
