The Nonsense Thread

Post HERE if you want to say anything that is not serious or that may not contribute to the greater good of this community.

Too Many Kids Posting Comments

I love this site, but it's incredible the number of nonsense comments that a few air head guys post here everyday. A big mahalo to all the paddlers who post good information on this site. After all this site was created to keep well informed the paddling community around the world.

Dispelling any doubt

I know this is not a surfing site, but since I've often been questioned about my previous avatar (me surfing a sizeable wave at a Florida break), I thought I'd share these video links of a couple of big swells that have hit within Florida's swell window in the relatively recent past:

East Coast of Florida a couple of years back (1/2 mile north of my home break Reef Road):

And more impressively, Puerto Rico:

Just to silence the skeptics :)

Molokai Relay

Does anybody know how and when we can enter the molo relay?
How much is the entry fee?
Who do you think will win?
Who will finish 27th?
Will the starting line creep halfway through the channel?
What kind of food will be at the end?
Are gas prices going to hit five bucks by regatta season?
Does anybody have any duct tape I can borrow?

Need advice on paddling on left, anyone?

I have a really great feeling of getting a lot of power and a good stretch/strong pull with the lat on the right side. This seems to be set up by leaning and twisting out to the right. When I do the stroke the ama comes up just a bit. If I mirror that same form when I am paddling on the left I seem to be putting weight on the ama and "plowing" it.

Is it a coaching point for OC-1 to try to lean a bit right when you paddle on the left to keep the ama "light"?

I use these coaching points from rambos site

"Chest up as if you had a gold medal to show off. Drop and rotate
lower hand and shoulder forward and show the fans on the shore the
number on your back. Then push hard with your heel on the foot brace and rotate your
shoulder so as to show the fans the gold medal on your chest. Your butt
is the pivote point in the motion and all the energy goes from the
paddle through your arm and on through to your foot on the brace
driving the boat forward."

When I drop my shoulder on the right, it is great because I lighten up the ama and get a really strong pull. When I do the same to the left, I put the weight on the ama. So I am trying lean a bit on the right when I paddle on the left. Correct? Thanks for advice. I am going to get some live coaching next month.

Much appreciated.

Moolooaba Masters at Gold Coast Cup 2008 - The Movie

This was a challenge, to film and paddle in a 9 man change over race and focus 100% on the paddling. I shot all the footage myself and I'm rapt in the fact that i gave all for my crew and still managed to capture great shots. I had 3 hours of footage to edit, and this is condensed down too 11 minutes. Apologize for leaving out some of the results as that was all i had confirmed.

Do yourself a favor and download the HQ version and have a permanent copy on your PC. (93meg)

Hydration Packs for sub-2 hour race

Hi all - with some friends from the UK I'm doing the NY Liberty race this year and wondered what people recommend for hydration + best containers to use.

I'm planning on using a complex carb drink with electrolytes which I think is fine for this but being relatively new to outrigging (dragon-boat background) I'm not sure what you usually use for a container. I guess a back mounted pack is going to be awkward and may make you hot. Does anyone use a simple pack attached to the seat and clipped onto their top by their mouth? Seems this would allow relatively easy access while paddling and in the event of a huli would just unclip but remian attached to the seat. Or - do you just take a break every now and then from paddling to take fluids on?

Any ideas/suggestions appreciated.

Thanks
Adam

Hinano State Race Pics

There's 237 pictures of long course participants below. The salt water sprays did a number on the camera lens so the pictures did not turn out as well. Amazing conditions - congrats to all the participants.
