OC-1 Question (Huki V1-X)

Hello Everyone,

O.K. first off, hopefully, you don't eat me alive for this question. I have read all the threads, believe me, there is a ton of useful info. I have posted only a couple of times on this site. Here is my question, I'm a novice OC-1 paddler, I owned a pretty beat up OC-1 Kaimana and I have recently sold it to be able to purchase a new kanu.

I wanted opinions on if the Huki V1-X is a good sized boat for a paddler who is 6' 190 lbs, sometimes up to 205 lbs. I'm not fat or anything like that, I just like to hit the gym up quite a bit. I have read about the boat and from what I have read, the boat works well with people up to 215 lbs., but I also read in bigger surf it is a great boat for bigger ocean swells for paddlers under 190 lbs. That is where I get a little nervous about spending over 3 grand. I like being in the open ocean, your inputs are greatly appreciated. I would call Jude, but I really don't want to bug the guy, seems like a busy man. Thanks for your help. Is it the motor and not the kanu in bigger open ocean swells?

Scorpius vs Zephyr

I tried the Zephyr and loved it but how would it compare to a Scorpius?

Unbelievable story... Paddling from Cali to Maui

I know most of you probably heard of this long long ago, but I have to pass this story on. Ed Gillet, fairly normal Joe paddled across the Pacific from Monterey California to Maui. Absolutely amazing feat, 2200 miles in 64 days on a stock Necky Tofino double kayak with no mast, sail... alone without a support crew.

Lisa

I just wanted to say that we wish Lisa Curry - Kenny a speedy recovery back to paddling. Molokai solo won`t be the same without you this year.....

Aloha ,

Fuze

Molokai Virgins.

Myself and a few mates are coming from Australia to Hawaii to compete in the second Molokai solo(we had already booked flights etc before the new race)
Now it seems from here that the actual paddling will be the easy part compared to the logistics of trying to organise canoes support boats etc,
Im sure its the same for you when and if you come over for Hammo (and hopefully you will one day) so any one with any usefull tips or leads that might help illuminate the task would be greatly appreciated.ie, I paddle a Pegasus here and may have secured the hire of a Scorpiusso how do they differ? I'M only light and worry that it may be too bulky, but is the seat attachment the same , velcro strip so that I can attach my custom bum hugger?
Any Molokai accom tips.
Where is a good place to eat in Waikiki?
Will I be able to rent an OC1 for a few days prior to the race on Oahu?
If any of you are planning on coming out to Hammo I would be more than happy to return any assistance or favours
Anyway , I find this forum and its contributors very informative and ecclectic but that Rambo character is out there what a dude,
Thanks for any help
Am looking forward to my imminent Hawaiian experience

Interesting OC-2 Sailer

You have to look at the pictures in the craigslist post.

This canoe made me laugh a little-not because of the design or look- but because just when you think you might have a unique idea-It was already done and to think 10 to 15 years ago. Pretty cutting edge for then.

"Great car-topable outrigger sailing canoe with storage compartments in the hull. This little catamaran or cat like sailboat is real unique and lots of fun. You can use this as a canoe to fish from, to paddle around or as a sailing rig. I've enjoyed taking my son for rides in the bay. The whole rig comes apart and can be assembled in about 15 minutes.

The unit is about 10-15yrs old and made by Great Outdoor Sports. I havent' seen anything like it so it is very unique."

Kaua'i World Challenge May 8-11

Attention Paddlers: Registration should be up and running this weekend. Format for event will be the same as last year. Thursday and Friday will be warm-up races. We will hold Thursday's race on the north shore (weather permitting) and therefore have opted to hold the race in the afternoon (2pm) so those of you flying in on Thursday have enough time to get to the race. Trailers that come in will be towed to Wailua River as in the past. Trailers will be utilized for warm-up races to ease the shuttling of cars/trucks. Friday's warm-up race will be on the east side weather permitting with an alternate course on the south side. Race will be at noon to allow everyone time to get to the Registration/Briefing/Dinner from 4-6pm Friday night. Saturday is the 34 mile relay race with awards/cash prizes at Salt Pond Beach Park. Yes, you heard me...cash prizes! I've heard rumors that there isn't any money. Well, if you think about those that are spreading that rumor...maybe they don't want you there...hmmm nice strategy! Sunday's race will be the Mother's Day OC6 race with mens, womens, and mixed divison. Canoes are limited so we are running 2 separate races so there is more participation. Look for more details in the near future on http://www.kauaiworldchallenge.com This is our 7th year! We look forward to an excellent turnout this year! Mahalo, Butch Keahiolalo
