A look at some numbers about global warming....

Kalihi will be a pretty hot buy sometime in my lifetime! If sea level rises 5 feet by 2100 Waikiki will be gone, along with everything else that is coastline now. Guess it may be a lot more commonplace to get around by boat in the very near future.

Here are a couple articles about it.

A new event, born from the fertile collective mind of ocpaddler.com

OC6 ama flying.

It could happen during sprint season.

Start at the outside buoy........when you hit the buoy, ama's up. A judge, for each boat, times the "air time". Winner is based on speed from buoy to buoy as well as "air time"

Olympic News

Patrick Dolan and Brandon Woods, both from Hawaii, just missed qualifying for the olympics. Luckily for them, time is on their side.

Its not the athlete, its the equipment........

1+1+1+1+1+1= 1?

If you put together your clubs 6 best OC1 paddlers, does that usually translate into the best OC6 crew?

Here is a paddlers touring rig when you head to your events or paddling destinations

Here it is, teardrop trailer #2 is out of the shop and ready for your next paddling adventure. #1 has sold and #2 is now available, #3 is underway. This retro style trailer can be towed by any vehicle and features a rear kitchenette. Sleeps a couple comfortably. Picture yourself cruising down the highway with your outrigger on your vehicle and your sleeping pod in tow. No hotel costs.

The body dimensions are 4' x 8' like the traditional teardrops from the 40's and 50's. Sleeping quarters will fit a full size futon and will fit folks up to 6'4". The galley area is open to the owners creative ideas.

The tongue box can hold tire blocks, jacks, spare ++++++

$4,800.

These trailers are popping up everywhere because of reduced gas consumption while towing and the small footprint factor. And most sell for $7,000+

Who is going to win the Pa'a Moloka'i Solo?

I'm not really wondering, I just can't believe that no one has asked this yet.

...I'm not wondering because I ALREADY KNOW.

Seriousness

In response to the expressed concern of questionable content of OCP.com's forums and the inability for readers to discern between what is valid and tripe, I have created a second account. Rest assured anything posted by seriouspoopoopaddler will in no way offend or belittle anyone in the ways mentioned by some and hopefully end all "nonsense" to this forum. I hope to well represent the good spirit and friendship of the paddling community and further its existence throughout the world. I hope you all have a wonderful day. Thank you for your time. Aloha and mahalo nui loa.

Fiji International April17th - 19th

We are enjoying sunny spells and sunny hospitality here in Suva for the Wai Tui Fiji International.

First held in 2003, this has become an annual event which offers Fijian paddlers the chance to flex a little muscle and for overseas paddlers to enjoy the 'Bula' experience of Fiji. Organizer, Colin Philp, has since founding this event, come to see it as a grass-roots event, not so much for the elite but for those who merely wish to experience the sport in a mellow, tropical environment, where simply being a part of the event, will warm you to the sport if you have grown cold of red tape and the absence of 'Aloha' which paddlers speak of, but rarely feel.

Here's a note from Claire from Port Stephens Aust: "Hi Australia - Claire H from PDs here i've just hijacked the race organizers laptop - Its awesome here! Everyone should come next year. We got a mention on Fiji TV last night, and Linda is racing OC1 marathon this afternoon. Bring it ON!!"

OK, I'm back...having moved a few times in its short life, being in Nadi (Nan_di) last year, the event has now moved to the University of the South Pacific just outside of Suva, a site used for the 2007 Hobie Worlds. Protected by a rock wall, the harbour area is proving to be a great sprint course for the V1 races currently underway, with paddlers from Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa, Samoa and Fiji competing. Conditions are hot and humid and apart from the occasional threatening storm cloud drifting past the fringing reef on the far distant horizon, conditions are calm.

Mandy and I are paddling with American Samoa, between taking photos and interviewing for http://www.kanuculture.com and Pacific Paddler magazine. We are guests of the Fiji Visitors Bureau and the Holiday Inn Suva to whom we thank for their support.

The event will run from today, Thursday 17th to Saturday 19th. V1 events today, and V6 events over Friday and Saturday, including Sprints and Marathon races. More later.
