Legal vs. illegal canoes qualifing for states

Legal vs illegal state spec canoes qualifing for State Champs. What is best for the sport? Around the state, what are the different associations doing? On the Big Island( MOKU Assoc.), clubs can qualify in illegal spec canoes. How is that good for the sport? So the option for clubs that are racing the larger legal canoes is to spend large money, minimully $40,000, to compete in certain races or certain conditions. Maybe an option is to use whatever, Mirage or Bradley, to qualify for states in the last three races of the yr. HUI Waa only uses fiberglass canoes all yr to qualify.

Obvious OCP Mafia Influence

I knew as soon as the "Mafia" lifestyle was promoted that we would start to see threads like the ones we have seen over the last week.

-Rogue race officials on the Big Island
-Threats of violence after races on Oahu
-Facebook attacks

For now it appears Maui and Kauai have a handle on this gang influence, but just wait.

Solutions-

1)Spend billions of dollars to solve gang violence just like Mexico and US-it worked so well. Or at least a committee or Blue Ribbon Report.

2)Education for parents

Keep a look out for things like-

Saturday's HK race

Anyone witness or see two "gentlemen" on a yellow and white OC2 call out or threaten my best friend Dale Hope outside of the finish at Kaimana during Saturday's HK to Elks Club race? This inquiry is for informational purposes only. Mahalo, Ken Bailey

MAHALO MOKU!

..and mahalo Keaukaha C.C. for putting on a righteous regatta this last weekend.

Congratulations Kai Opua on your club's win!

Official boats on race course

okay this a vent and a question. yesterday in moku's mens open 4 race is where the frustration finally blew up. coming out of a dead heat 1st quarter mile with puna and kai opua , keauhou coming out of our turn is faced with a official boat in our lane. so at that moment when we are getting up speed out of the turn (in a 4 man!) the boat driver accelerates and twists 90 degrees and heads off from lane 3 towards lane 4. the result was 4 1' wakes that instantly hit keauhou and stopped all speed gained out of the hole. in a race that decided by 1-2 seconds each week this is a pretty big factor.

Paddling spots in San Diego, CA

I'm heading down to San Diego for a long July 4th weekend and was thinking of bringing my OC1 with me. Where do the locals paddle at? Are there any particular routes you all take? I'm on my own so I was thinking just an out-and-back kind of route as opposed to point-to-point. What are the conditions like this time of year? Can you just launch from the beach?

  • Mission Bay? (Can you launch anywhere?)
  • Mission Beach?
  • Del Mar Beach?
  • La Jolla Shores?

Lost Canoe and paddle

Hey there, I lost my one man canoe in the ocean off Kahala coast/ Diamond Head area yesterday around 4pm. It's a Fuze Outrigger Connection canoe with a yellow/red top and white bottom. It has a few stickers on it. Lost the paddle (Moana Nui all wooden blade), too. If you hear of it, or see it please email me, or give me a call. 808.428.7113 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              808.428.7113      end_of_the_skype_highlighting.
Thanks guys!!! Don't paddle further off shore than you are willing to swim back :-)
Aloha
