Kailua surfing video

Not quite as interesting as Clarkie's, but here is a clip from last Wednesday. Great conditions with a lot of people out. I wish bumps were that easy to catch... It's kinda long, but enjoy anyway...
Aloha,

Boat repair/finish question

Hey guys. I've been doing fiberglass repairs on my surfboards and boats for years. I can do a repair w/o a problem however, I have never been able to achieve a really nice, glossy finish which matches the existing finish of the boat. I've just done a repair today and the repair is "invisible" when the area is wet. Once it dries..you can see the fine swirls left by my repeated wet sanding/buffing. I even got hold of some 1500 wet sandpaper (hard to find) and I still see very fine swirls. How do I get a nice, glossy finish? I've been told a few things: I need to use a "finish" resin ...I have to buff over and over until glossy...I should spray a clear, glossy polyurethane type spray over the area. Any advice?

Technique vs Effort

Just curious how many of you give way to technique to push it harder when needed like in a race or just up against the guys in a run? Who sticks to good technique and doesnt give in to the urge to put more muscle into it and has seen good results? Im working on better technique but its hard to stick to it all the time and would just like to hear others thoughts.

Outlaw Surf Coast Video.

The link will take you to my Inland Outrigger Blog and the video of the 25km downwind Outlaw Ocean Race from Anglesea to Torquay on Australia's premier surf coast, paddling past the famous Bell's Beach. This race was the culmination of a group of paddlers who saw the need for ocean racing in Victoria and then made it happen. With the support of Wade VAUTIER and his company all the permits and insurances were obtained to run this challenging race. This is the only genuine Downwind race in Victoria, Australia. Be sure to check out the backdrop from some of the scenes to appreciate our spectacular and unique coastline. We would love to see paddlers from all over the world come and experience OUTLAW.

how do you find your max heart rate

I know the standard 220 - your age but there are ways to find out individual heart rate max's using sprints etc, etc. Anyone know this method? I was told Karel Sr had a formula and its probably on here somewhere but with no working search function it cold take forever. Thanks for any input both serious and non.

coosing a padel

hi I am looking at getting into outrigger pedaling and am going to convert my paddle ski by adding an outrigger at the moment I paddle this ski in flat water with a double paddle is there a reason all outriggers seem to be paddled with single paddles I have some single paddles from an old wide canoe we paddled as kids should I use this instead. Is there anything else I should expect to be different going from single hulled canoes/skis to an outrigger I am not looking to start racing or anything at this point just using it for fishing and snorkeling on some reefs about a mile offshore and want a little more stability in the swell

Weight of OC 1 Canoes - What Would You Prefer ?

In case you are interested in this topic:

Experienced boat builders do not think that boat weight ( a few pounds plus ) should be too much of a concern:

  • impact on performance was not deemed a major factor
  • a boat could be built slightly different and a little more rugged
  • certain areas such as bow, stern, behind the rudder, where you strap the boat down, etc. could be reinforced

Customers may see this different - or not ?

I figure that it would be interesting to know what you paddlers think: ultra-light, medium or extra sturdy ?
