What paddles did team tahit use in the sprints at the 2011 South Pacific Games?

Looks like the steersman was using a viper va'a. The rest where all wooden. Hiro have any info?

Who makes the nicest looking wooden paddles?

I got a new paddle today from a well regarded paddle maker and I'm kinda disappointed with the build quality and finish. Being a pretty good amateur wooden boat and furniture builder and having been with a company that sold a lot of wooden kayak paddles I do know what a really nice custom paddle should look like.

So, any suggestions on who's the best outrigger paddle craftsman today? Who really takes pride in build quality and appearance? Performance is also important, but I know that I'll never be a great paddler (started too late), so it's not that big a deal to me.

Anyone Paddling the New Storm?

Just wondering if anyone has had a chance to paddle the Storm oc1 a few times yet?

OC-1 on truck racks

i have a 4 door 2003 tacoma (the smaller tacoma) with a 6 foot bed. i bought a bent bar rack that sits right behind the cab, and one for the top cab. i plan on placing my canoe upside down on rack pads, and was wondering, 1. should i pad the whole back rack, or just use surfboard 24" pads that are detachable? 2. how should i strap them down. should i buy 2 short straps and strap the canoe down individually to each rack, or use 1 long one and have it loop all the way around the canoe? any help would be great, thanks

Rudderless Steering

The thing I'm trying to figure out right now is how to Kahi steer my V1.

I am familiar with the kahi steering methods in the OC6, but it seems like the effects of the kahi when used in a V1 are opposite that in an OC6 (probably b/c I'm doing the wrong thing).

Does anybody have any insight on the proper methods of utilizing the kahi in the V1? Tim? Luke? Any input would be hugely appreciated!

Tahitian V1's and V3's container finally in Hawaii….come demo.

So after nearly a year of emails, skype calls, 2 trips to tahiti and 4 to Oahu… the container of Fai3, ARE, Timi, Tama Tahitian designed/built V1's and Fai V3's finally arrived September 17th and cleared customs last week.
Almost all the Va'a were pre-ordered as I just consolidated the order/container. However, as a special treat, Joe threw in a few extra V1's for me to demo in Hawaii/Cali and eventually sale.

Racks or cradles for truck?

Just bought a used Pegasus and am not sure if I should just transport upside down on the truck surf racks or if I should invest in the cradles. I hear mixed advice, some say cradles, some say no cradles. We have a Nissan Frontier that has racks with surfboard pads.
Any advice?

unlimited 6-man

My new venture with IHE canoes, will bring one of the first unlimited surf canoes to the Hilo side. We will be completed in Nov./Dec. We will be looking to the future of this new division and hope to offer a different approach to design and performance. I will post pics as the project progresses. I thank those that came before us for inspiring us to scrape our pennies up to make this dream of ours a reality. A Hui Ho!!

iako length

I bought a canoe that I'm going to fix up. It's missing the iakos. From what I've been told/seen originals were just straight tubes.

I bought the tube...2x 6ft.....what is the typical length of the iakos. It's a flat water canoe...Sealion. A pair of iakos I borrowed are about 3ft, but wasn't sure that was an ideal length.
