Missing Broad Reach Paddle After Pailolo

My Broad Reach paddle walked away from the area that the canoes come in to on Molokai after the Pailolo race. It's a 52" Tahiti Iti with a black top grip. I know, shot in the dark and all, but if you happen to have grabbed my paddle thinking it belonged to a crew member please message me.

Best OC1 for newbie female in Kona

I am hoping for input from experienced paddlers out there as to what OC1 canoe to purchase. I am a newbie to paddling but I have ocean kayak's and I am fairly athletic - I am a road cyclist. I am 5'8" and weigh 120 lbs - not much on the upper body strength which is something I hope to gain through paddling. I will be using the canoe strictly on the Kona side where its flat and not a lot of wave action. I have done some research on the various threads/postings but I am really looking for specifics given my size and location of where I will be paddling. Any recommendations out there?

Sanctioned Hybrid Paddles

I have always found the issue concerning race rules for "traditional canoes" interesting. One topic similar to this is the issue of the traditional paddle. I believe a OHCRA legal paddle has to have a wood shaft and a wood core in the blade. Hybrid paddles that use a wood core in the blade are legal even though the wood component ( usuallly balsa) is paper thin and is more symbolic then anything else. I also note that there are a lot of hybrid paddles in use that do not have the wood in the blade.

Foam for racks

Does anyone know where to buy the box foam that can be cut to fit racks? The finished racks seems to be very expensive for a chunk of foam.

Thanks

Thinking about buying an Eclipse by Sandwich Island Composites

Does anyone know anything about the Eclipse from Sandwich Island Composites. I've been offered the chance to buy a fairly new one for $1,500. I don't see them mentioned on this forum so was wondering if anyone had an opinion on them. I will be using it here on Maui. Thanks.

Open designs at Queen Lili'uokalani race

It looked like there were a lot of open class canoes at the race this past weekend. One in particular caught my eye (photo is from the Waikiki Beach Boys Facebook page) since I think it is a new hull, probably built after the 'Alala since it has the same 'iako system. I think there is also a photo of Luke doing an in depth check out on it.

Just curious how all of the various open class canoes did and any thoughts from people that saw them in person. I saw both Kamanu canoes in photos (Kapa'a and Kawainui), Team Livestrong's 'Alala and I'm sure there were a couple others.

OC2 Question

I'm looking at purchasing an OC2 in the near future, looking primarily at the Huki V2-X and the Stingray Two. The boat would serve double duty as a flat-water racer and a recreational boat for my wife and I (so I can push myself in race practice while she paddles at a more relaxing pace and we'll stay together :-) ). Any opinions about these boats? I'm located in the Midwest USA, so other than an occasional trip to the Great Lakes or the ocean in North Carolina, the boat isn't likely to see a lot of surf.

Thanks!

Is it possible or desirable to modify a V1 hull ?

Hi there, my post might be a bit long, thanks in advance for your time to all of you willing to answer.

I'm training on an old va'a from my club, that is a good glider, but has some issues I'd like to fix.
I must emphasis : If you think my problems could come from a lack of paddling skills, feel free to tell so ! (In a gentle manner, though !)
I'm not actually a beginner, but I'm relatively new to this sport, although I've try - paddled 5 or 6 different va'as and 2 or 3 different OCs.
I'm aware of, and used to specific va'a paddling, and a former kayak and canoe paddler.

Would This Boat Work

I am looking for a cheap starter boat to get out in the water(flat and small surf). Nothing planning on doing any serious racing but need to get back out on the water soon. Basically I am 6' 235. I'm hoping this boat has enough volume to float me. I tried out a friends Hurricane without too much of a problem. Any feedback would be hugely appreciated.

PS: I know most of you would say but a Scorpius or newer boat but money is a little tight.

Roof top Ama Carrier

I know this has been addressed before, but I can't locate the post. I have a Thule base rack and a boat carrier, but I'm looking for a good ama carrier as well to get it out of my car ;> Is there a commercially available ama carrier that fits Thule bars or does everyone just use the foam blocks and tie downs?

Thanks for the help!`
